CaseSteps is an educational and organizational service for people facing criminal charges, the families who support them, and the legal teams who work with them. It explains how criminal cases generally move forward, in plain language, and gives people a structured way to organize what they already know and write down better questions for their own attorney.

CaseSteps is not a law firm. It does not provide legal advice or representation, does not review case documents, does not calculate dates or credits, does not determine eligibility for any program, and does not predict outcomes. Laws and policies change and differ by jurisdiction, so important decisions belong with qualified counsel.

What you can use today

• Question Library — prewritten educational answers about federal and state case stages, custody and release, each with its official sources and review date.
• Case Roadmap — guided questions that build a timeline, a records checklist and a list of questions for counsel. Answers stay in the page for a single visit and are cleared when the page is refreshed or closed.
• Resources for attorneys and legal teams — material attorneys can hand to clients and families so meetings start further along.
• Editorial standards — how content is written, sourced, reviewed and dated, including how AI is used in drafting.

Who operates CaseSteps

CaseSteps is operated by Veritas Justice Reform as a for-profit educational business, but the CaseSteps tools currently available on this website are provided without charge. There is no checkout, no payment processor is connected, and no account is needed to use the public materials. Questions about the site can be sent to the address below. Please do not send case documents or confidential information.
